Irish Woodturners’ Guild National Seminar
Irish Woodturners’ Guild National Seminar
September 30, 2012
I was honored to be a part of the Irish Woodturners’ Guild National Seminar this year in Killarney. There could not have been a more beautiful setting nor a more welcoming and hospitable group of hosts. Also, it was a pleasure to be among such a talented group! In the photo above are the demonstrators - from left to right, John and Theresa Murphy, Sue Harker, Mary Ashton, myself, Emmet Kane, and Yann Marot. In the photo, we are gathered around turned wooden chairs created by legendary Irish woodturner Liam O’Neill. One of the most difficult things I have ever had to do was help in judging the chapter challenge. This year was spinning wheels. There were eleven entries!! Eleven fully functioning spinning wheels, all created with an incredible amount of diligence, passion, and downright hard work. They even brought spinners in to give them all a try. To see photos of these spinning wheels, click here. Another thing to add to my list of the most difficult things I’ve had to do - leaving Ireland!
